Debra
T. Hirsch is a member of the firm, specializing in Federal and State estate and
gift tax planning, charitable planning, preparation of Wills and Trusts, and
estate administration. She practiced tax law with a major Wall Street firm prior
to becoming associated with the Firm in 1990. Ms. Hirsch became a member of the
Firm in 2003.
Ms. Hirsch has participated in the Master of Laws Degree in Taxation program
at New York University Law School. She received her J.D. Degree from Columbia
University School of Law in 1980 and her B.A. in economics, magna cum laude, phi
beta kappa, from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1977. Ms.
Hirsch has been awarded an AV Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, denoting
“very high” professional ethics and “very high to preeminent” quality of legal
work.
Ms. Hirsch has lectured before professional groups, including the New Jersey
Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the National Business Institute, on
the subjects of sophisticated gift and estate tax planning, closely-held family
businesses, and trusts and estates. She has co-authored many articles on estate
tax law, including: “IRS Now Taking a Bite of Gifts of Family Businesses,” New
Jersey Law Journal (May 13, 2002); “Hitting a ‘Home’ Run with a Residential
Trust,” Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section Newsletter, NJSBA,
Spring/Summer, 1993; “GRATs Great for Giving Closely Held Business Interests to
Family,” Real Property Probate and Trusts Law Section Newsletter, NJSBA, Spring
1992; “Transferring Control of Family Owned Businesses,” New Jersey Lawyer,
September/October, 1991 and assisted in preparation of the First, Second and
Third editions of Estate Planning Strategist (a treatise published by New Jersey
Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
Ms. Hirsch is admitted to the bar in New Jersey and New York, and is admitted
to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. District Courts for New
Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She is also a member
of the Bergen County and New Jersey State Bar Associations. She is a member of
the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
